Job Description

Student Ministry Pastor

(Middle and High School)

Job Classification: Full Time

Reporting to: Director of Family Ministry

Job Description:

Right now, they are making decisions about what they believe and what path they will take. Student ministry can engage teenagers where they are, partner with parents, and develop leaders who can have lasting influence so that students can learn to love God, love others, and love themselves.

    1. Are created to pursue an authentic relationship with their Creator
    2. Belong to Jesus Christ and define who they are by what He says
    3. Exist every day to bring God’s love to a broken world

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Engage Teenagers
    • Create environments and opportunities that are relevant and enjoyable to middle school and high school students
    • Develop a connection strategy that helps students move from first time guests to engaged members of the student ministry and larger church
    • Develop a clear spiritual formation strategy that helps students take steps in becoming more like Jesus while learning to take ownership of their personal relationship with Jesus
    • Create a culture where students learn the joy of generosity and take advantage of opportunities to serve local, serve national, and serve global
    • Ensure that all teaching methods, materials and facilities meet the highest possible standards
  2. Partner with Parents
    • Create environments and opportunities to build positive relationships with the parents of students
    • Create methods of clear and consistent communication
    • Coordinate with the larger Family Ministry team to provide clear, consistent, and accessible resources to help families succeed
    • Be a pastor to parents and create a ministry that cares for the family as a whole
  3. Develop Leaders
    • Develop a team of leaders that are equipped and empowered to carry out the responsibilities and relationships of Student Ministry
    • Develop leaders who can establish meaningful relationships and lasting influence with students of each age group
    • Create a pathway of spiritual growth and leadership development for adult and student leaders
    • Provide for the recruitment, care, training, and evaluation of leaders

Spiritual Criteria:

  • Professes Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
  • Commitment to personal spiritual growth
  • Models standards and expectations of leaders within First Wesleyan Church
  • Must attend First Wesleyan Church


  • Bachelors degree preferred
  • Experience in ministry or church vocational work
  • Highly relational and able to connect well with all people
  • Adaptable, flexible, and a strong team player
  • Experience in organizing multiple people, projects, and events
  • Able to think and plan strategically
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
